Sound card not recognized

Guest

Out of the blue my system stopped recognizing my sound card, in fact it says
I don't even have one installed and refuses to load any drivers for it card
is an audigy 1). I tried taking out and putting the card back in..then moved
it to another PCI slot. Nothing works. I even bought a newer Audigy 2
card..no luck.

On the devive manager it shows no sound device at all. I even went into my
bios to try to activate the onboard sound chip on my motherboard to see if
that would work...nope..no sound

What could be the problem?

Boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, remove/delete any and all
instances of sound card hardware you find, reboot and see if Windows
re-detects.
