What sound card do you have? Did you install it's driver?

remove the sound hardware listings from the device manager
reboot
if its a driver issue this should resolve it.

My sound card is a Realtek AC97. I have tried uninstalling an
rebooting and downloaded the latest drivers and it still has the sam
problem. There is also no conflicts with any other hardware. I hav
searched the internet and it seems other people have gotten the sam
problem but nobody has found a clear solution

I have had this problem (busted channel) on a few integrated sound boards,
It could be a damaged channel caused by a short across the speaker wires
that occurred prior.

So is it something that cannot be fixed? If I brought it into a repai
shop would they be able to help

if its integrated into the mainboard probably not, unless they were to put
in an expansion card (PCI sound card)

And you can get a cheap one for say $10 that will still be better
than the on board sound chip :)
