Sound Blaster Live Surround

I've been trying to figure this out for ages now. I still am not able to
select a 5.1 surround. I read other people's posts and tried what they did
but I have had no luck. Can anyone walk me through this, because if I can't
get the rest of my speakers working on Vista, I think I'd rather just go back
to XP. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You likely need to install a better driver for the sound card. If there
isn't a Vista driver from the manufacturer, try one for XP. The default
sound driver included with Vista may not fully support 5.1, it just enables
basic sound.

I did do this, which is what another topic said to do. It also does not show
up that I have surround sound. Anything else I shoudl try?

Are you using the Creative Labs Beta drivers? They are not solid yet.

i used beta drivers, i used xp drivers, i used some other "modded" drivers...
and still no surround.

That's not surprising. Just hope Creative has a working driver when Vista
is RTM.

Im not too sure but on the lower end Creative cards ( sound blaster 5.1 for
example) I think use software to produce 5.1 using what they call CMSS. Could
be wrong.
