I've had this problem ever since I bought this PC. It is an HP M1170n and
has the Media Center 2005 and no matter which app I'm in whether or not I'm
online or not even just after turning it on I get a frozen screen with no
ability to move the mouse or keyboard. I've disconnected both mouse and
keyboard to test it and it still freezes. Is there some app I can use
winthin WindowsXP that can provide me with a log of what is going on here
such as a program trying to initialize or something? I just can't figure it
out and noone seems to know what this problem is. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks.

I thought I had it when something happened as I was using the mouse and it froze up. I checked the event viewer and it showed something about the mouse buffer data overflowing?. Here's the info on it.
The ring buffer that stores incoming mouse data has overflowed (buffer size is configurable via the PS/2 mouse properties in device manager).

I tried adding higher numbers in the advanced hardware properties tab but then nothing seems to have changed since I used it only this time it froze up while I was typing. I checked the event viewer and waited for something but saw nothing in there. Now I don't know what is going on. As I was using the mouse again the freezing happened again and I really don't know how to change the settings. The HP help and support center Internet page says that the buffer is configurable from the registry but I'm not sure how to get in there and how to change it. Any ideas about that one? Thierry

It seems that there is a problem with the mouse hardware maybe. You might want to contact HP tech
support on this one.
