Sorting based on one column

I'm trying to sort a spreadsheet based on one cloumns' info. Basically it's
a ranking of sales for the month with names in the rows. The names are
sorted, or ranked, by the YTD sales. What I'm trying to do is sort, or rank,
by the monthly sales in the same spreadsheet.

A B C F G
Name Sales Monthly Rank YTD Sales YTD Rank
Smith 3,000 2 10,000 1
Jones 5,000 1 5,000 2

Instead of ranking the spreadsheet by column G, I want to sort the
spreadsheet by column C. My actual spreadsheet has a lot more data.

I tried highlighting the entire spreadsheet and going to sort by column G,
but an error message says that the merged cells need to be identically
sized....

Help! And sorry to be so wordy....

Stay away from Merged cells - they're nasty to work with, except maybe in
headers or labels or somewhere where you'll never have to move,
copy, paste, sort, etc. Hate those things! But that's just my opinion. As well
as the opinion of LOTS of experts!
