Papa John's site seems to carry lots of comments about dark images from Sony
DVD Cameras.

I have a TRV18 and when I first used it I contacted Sony about the dark
images - but didn't get a fix.

Has anyone found a fix other than using MovieMaker and adding two shots of
increase brightness?

I don't think it's only "DVD" cameras or just Sony. It is not uncommon for
video to appear darker on your PC than on your Camcorder or TV. It is
usually a function of the Gamma settings and color temperature differences
between you PC monitor and TV. Look at your final product and how it's
intended to be viewed.

Hi John,

Have you considered using the small program WinDV (Link on my web site) its
only job is to import DV-AVI from your DV camera or to send it back to your
camera. Perhaps there is something that MovieMaker does not handle too well
with your model of camera.

If WinDV creates the same dark image as well as the software that came with
your camera then you will have to take corrective action. There is a
program called MovieXone (free on several magazines, in the UK PC Utilities
Plus often carries it) MovieXone will increase the brightness OK, but you
might want to edit the Gamma level as an alternative (It can give better
results, sometimes)

Also, are you the John Plant from L1? If so, please contact me via my
website.
