Sony Vegas Pro - Trimming screen pixels?

While reading the Sony Vegas 12 manual I noticed that you can trim one
screen pixel to the left or right. I can understand trimming 1 frame to the
left or right but why would you want to trim pixels?

Perhaps someone can give me a reason why this is done in video editing.
