i have to hold down the blue Fn key (function key) in
order for the letters to type as they shoud. it's as if
this key is permanently locked. any ideas to "unlock"
it? it's a real pain. hopefully this is a stupid
question with a simple fix.

if i connect a regular keyboard to the laptop via usb,
the regular laptop works fine.

Does the manual for the Sony say anything about how this blue FN key
works? Sounds indeed like it's toggled "on" and you need to toggle it
"off". Probably some special Sony key combination.

I accidentally found the solution in researching your problem: Tap the
Fn key six times. A dialog will pop up; uncheck the "Sticky Function
Key" checkbox. It is a mystery what this sticky function is supposed to
accomplish!
