Sony Vaio laptop upgrade to XP Pro

My office tech says I must upgrace my Sony laptop from XP Home to XP PRO in order to get on office network. However, he says that the VAIO shipped with a customized version of XP Home, and I cannot upgrade to Pro. He says Pro may not work on Vaio, so Sony has refused to support any problems.

Is the tech shooting straight?

Depending on the model.. Yes. They do not support (OEM right to do this,
Sony being the OEM here..) anything but the SHIPPED OS.

Hi Mike,

Yes, he is.

1) Changing the preinstalled operating system usually voids a warranty.

2) You need Pro if your office uses a domain

3) A retail version of WinXP may not contain all needed drivers to support
the hardware in the Viao machine. Unless you can find them downloadable from
Vaio, you may have trouble getting the system to work correctly.

I would suggest you contact Sony about the availability of a customized
upgrade CD for the system.

The vaio site has all the drivers needed for your model.
