Sony Laptops v Windows XP Professional

Why is this manufacturer allowed to state (on the front
of their laptops that their product is designed for
Microsoft Windows XP, when they are clearly not.

I have just tried to install XP professional on two brand
new machines and both have fallen over with virtual
memory failures.

Sony will not assist because it does not support software
which does not come withe the machine (albeit XP)

Microsoft suggest that Sony Laptops have HCL problems
with Sony - Bit late to find this out.
