Songbook TOC/Index?

I am trying to create a songbook in Word. Each page contains multiple songs,
numbered in their order of appearance. I would like to create an
alphabetized index/Table of contents that lists the song number order, rather
than the page number.

Can anyone help me on how to set this up? Thanks.

Use the Index function. Once you have marked your entries and created an
Index, select the Index, then Sort by paragraphs, ascending.
I have found that once you have done the Sort, any new entries will
automatically be alphabetised upon refreshing the Index.
Hope this helps

Okay... I've tested out an index where I've marked entries, and I can sort
them. The problem I am having is I don't know how the change the page #
reference to show a paragraph reference instead. In this case, I've used
bulleting numbers. Is there any way to show bullet numbers instead of pages.

I am glad you got the alphabetised listing working.
What you are asking now, I don't think this is possible with an Index. In
the Insert, Field, Index switch listing there is a switch \s "Includes the
referenced sequence number with the page number". I cannot find further
information on exactly how this switch is used but as you can see it still
includes the page number. You maybe asking to much as I don't know of any
function that will pick up a bullet numbering as a reference. May be someone
else will jump in here with further information.
All the best

I am not seeing a switch \s option anywhere...

I'd be okay with page numbers listed, just as long as I can have some kind
of paragraph/bullet number listed as well, if anyone know's how to accomplish
this?

Thanks for your help.

So I found the \s sequence switch function under field codes... but I'm still
having trouble getting it to show up in any useful format. numbers after \s
refer to the heading style, but I don't know if there are other variables for
\s
