Sometimes Access is denied, sometimes it isn't.

I have an “Access denied†problem that I can’t figure out.

My servers are all running Windows Server 2003 R2. My end-users all have
windows xp.

I have a file server that contains personal folders for many end-users.
Everything works fine for end users that have only one switch separating
their personal computers from the file server. End users that have to go
through more than one switch have started receiving an intermittent “Access
denied†message when connecting to their personal folders. The network
connectivity seems fine as I can ping the user from the server and vice
versa. No error messages appear, either on the computer or in the event logs.

If I go to the user’s folder and give “everyone†full access to the folder,
then the user can connect. If I restrict access back to just the user, the
“Access denied†starts to happen again.

Individual user’s seem to experience the problem at random intervals.
Sometimes the problem just goes away on its own, and sometimes they can get
connectivity back by rebooting. About once a week everyone gets denied access
at once, I then have to reboot the server to get everyone reconnected.

If I physically move the user’s computer, so that they are within one switch
of the file server, the problem goes away.

Rebooting the switches has no effect.

Does anybody have any idea about what the heck is happening and what I can
do about it?

Thanks,

As your question has nothing to do with .NET, you're unlikely to get much
help in this .NET programming group. You should find an appropriate
discussion group for your question.

Try this:

As you appear to be using a web interface, try this to find an appropriate
group:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/

In the tree on the left, open English, then open the Servers subcategory. In
Servers, find
and open the subcategory for Windows Server, and find a group there for your
post.
