something writering to Hard Drive

I am always hearing the Hard Drive intermittently "chattering" when I am
doing nothing with the keyboard or the mouse.

I have run Adware, Spybot and my Anti-Virus www.trendmicro.com and there is
nothing being found that would indicate that there is malware or adware
sending signals from computer. However, when my system is idle, I still hear
the HD in short little bursts, like something is reading it or writing to
it.

How can I disable anything in my stand-alone Windows HP Pavilion so when I
am online gaming, these little spurts of HD chatter will not effect my
mouse's accuracy when I am playing online games?
 
Do you have indexing service turned on?
