something in word

i'm trying to use microsoft word but my mom did something and so everytime
you press the space bar or enter button it displays something between the
words. how do i turn it off?
 
Go to: tools/options

Under the View tab, uncheck the boxes by spaces and paragraph marks.

(You don't really have to turn those off, as they only show up on the
screen. When you print the document, those marks won't show whether or not
you uncheck the boxes.)
