something gor corrupted, I think javascript related

Windows XP home with all latest updates installed.

Computer boots OK and runs most software but something is wrong. On my
desktop a clock that uses javascript code will not display. Using IE7 web
pages using javascript do not display the javascript items.

I tried to go back to a restore point but F1 does not bring up the help menu
and if I try and open system restore from the start menu I get a blank
window with just the frame and top blue bar.

I was having problems with McAfee just before this happened and I
uninstalled McAfee. I now see I can't install McAfee because the options on
the install window do not show up (I presume they are displayed using
javascript).

I tried to find a repair option on my install disk but it just says my
installation is a newer version than what is on disk so I have to uninstall
first.

Any ideas what I can do to sort this?

Is there any way to run system restore from the command prompt?

Should only have the latest Java Patch in your Control Panel > Add/Remove
Programs. If you have more than one, uninstall the others. While your in
Add/Remove make sure McAfee isn't still there. You can go to McAfee's Website
and download their Removal Tool for McAfee AntiV program. It wouldn't hurt to
run the Removal Tool before installing it again.
