Somehow downloaded XP twice

I have some how downloaded XP twice so now at a dos
prompt I am asked to choose an operating system. How do
I delete one of the XP's?

Unless you have XP installed on more than one hard drive, I would suspect
that it has not been installed twice. What you can do is disable that
prompt so it will boot directly into XP. First, right-click My Computer,
then click Properties. Click the Advanced tab, then click the "Startup and
Recovery" button. The first section in the new window should be "System
startup"; uncheck the "Display list of operating systems" and it should take
care of your problem. Or, if you're not comfortable with this, simply
change the time to something less; say, 5 seconds. HTH.

Okay, I see where you are talking about...and it list 2
XP's. It's the second one I want....but is there a way
to get rid of the first one....I think it is taking up
space. Thanks for the response!

Sure there's a way to edit the list. See the edit button
just below your drop down list. Click it. Then place your
cursor to the right of the line you want to remove and
then left click and hold the button down and drag the
mouse over the line you want removed to highlight it and
then right click on this line and click delete. Have fun.

For future reference, please don't confuse terminolgoy. I doubt you
"downloaded" XP twice, but you may have "installed" it twice. There
is a HUGE difference.

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig
Then go to the Boot.ini Tab and click on Check All Boot Paths. If you
receive a warning about a duplicate path: Do you want to remove, choose
yes.

Or...

Right click the My Computer icon/Properties/Advanced/Startup and
Recovery/Settings/System Startup/Edit.
