somehow customizing 'outlook today' is not totally functional

The subheading 'Styles' in cutomizing outlook today has stopped working as I
have known it to. I have run a detect and repair on outlook with no change.

Winter and summer colours are lost..?

Otherwise all else in outlook works well.
 
Assuming you are saying that you are selecting the customize button on the
outlook today page and it isn't working, then I'm going to point you at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=820575 since you didn't mention operating
system or what version of Microsoft Outlook is in use.
