Some suggestions

Several Suggestions for an update for Outlook 2007:

1) make the colors for categories selectable from the full pallet.
Currently there are only 25 color choices for categories, and for some that
isn't enough, allow a user to select any color (this happens almost
everywhere else in Microsoft products, ewhen a color choice is selectable,
why not here?)

2) SUB-CATEGORIES, SUB-CATEGORIES, SUB-CATEGORIES
a. Create subcategories, somehow
b. Another option (which would accomplish the same thing), allow a
view that is grouped by categories to display only specific categories, i.e.
Real Estate, Mortgage, Client, etc. this way I can create a view that is
grouped by categories, limited to clients, and only shows the categories:
Real Estate & Mortgage. This way, I won't have al of the other categories
visible (and that aren't necessary for the particular view)

3) TabView Organizer. It's a 3rd party addon that broke with the
introduction of Outlook 2007. The company hasn't been able to fix it to work
with 2007. Help them, or buy it and incorporate it so the functionality
works, it was an awesome program, and tremendously useful

4) SendAccount. Another 3rd party program that doesn't work with Outlook
2007 properly. It allows a user to assign an email account to a contact, so
that whenever you send an email to that contact, it always is sent via the
same account, very useful for business & personal contacts. BUT, since the
account is selected after the email is sent (between pressing the "Send"
button, and it's transfer to the Outbox to be sent), the appropriate
signature for the account is not included. Help them fix this too, or (as
with the above suggestion), buy, license (or whatever) the product and
incorporate it's functionality into Outlook (natively).

2b exists already.

In the Define New View function you can create you own filtered views. So
he could choose to make a View which shows Real Estate & Mortgage as
requested.

I know I can create views, but that isn't the problem.

I have many contacts with multiple categories. I want to create a view that
shows all of my clients (I am a Real Estate agent and Mortgage broker.) But,
if one of my clients is also categorized as a friend, or family, or any one
of 25 other categories I have assigned, then if I create a view that is
grouped by categories, it shows ALL of the categories that everyone in the
list could be, so I get a view that has the following groups:

Real Estate
Mortgage
Friend
Family
etc.

I want to ONLY show the groups of people that are clients (I can do this by
assigning "Client" as a category and filter on it), and show them in groups
for what they are a client for, i.e. Real Estate or Mortgages, etc, BUT NOT
show all of the other category groups that these people could also be.
Sub-Categories could handle this, or a Group by categories, but only show
specific category groups could also handle this.

I could also create a "Sub-Categories" field, but that would mean that I'd
have to manually populate this for everyone in my address book. It seems
rather stupid, when assigning a category is right there on the menu, and I
can come pretty close (but not quite) using the views capability already
built in.

I tend to recommend that you a) decide what you'll use the category field
for then b) make additional fields to hold other types of data. Categories
will not do everything!

Filtered views then become very powerful. Try a filtered view and make an
extra field or two. A yes/no field for Client may be what you need.

I'm clear that I can do everything that I want if I were to take the time to
both customize my forms and fields, AND have the added data input that would
b required, but both of those seem to be an excessive amount of extra work,
considering the built in tools (and default forms) make everything so easy,
EXCEPT, of course for the lack of additional features (sub categories, and
SendAccount & Tabview functionality)

Thanks anyway :)
