I am having a strange problem with XP that I can not
figure out. After a reboot the computer works fine. But
after about 15 min some programs will no longer load.
Some of those programs are: task manager, symantic anti
virus, volume control and others. If I click the icon or
exe it seems to do nothing, but when I check task manager
it shows the program running as many times as I clicked
the icon or exe. I have run
both Ad-aware and Spy-bot, and also have run anti-virus
with
latest defs. I did find some spyware and removed it but
still same problem. Any ideas??

Thanks,
Joe

Firstly symantec AV should be running in the background on booting. You
should see an AV icon in yr task bar, the same applies to yr Volume
control.Access either from the task bar not Programs

Symantic AV is running in the background, but I used to
be able to open it by clicking the icon in the systray -
now I cant.

I have a HP M270 Media Center computer that is exhibiting
the exact symptoms that you described in your posting.
The HP is running Windows XP Media Center Edition.

To no avail, I have spent many hours online with the HP
help center. I finally, searched the support knowledge
base on Microsofts web site and have found a knowledge
base article that describes a similar problem. The
article is number is 820252. It states that "A Program
Window May Not Be Visible If the Program Hangs in Windows
XP".

The article also state that microsoft has a fix for the
problem described in the knowledge base article. In order
to obtain the fix, you must make a request through
Microsoft. Microsoft also states that the fix will be
incorporated in the next upcoming service pack.

I am in the process of trying to figure out how to
request the patch (fix) from Microsoft.

Hi - There is nothing to "figure out". Contact Microsoft per the link in
the article and get the hotfix. You will not be charged. The MS phone
number for hot fixes in the USA is 800-936-5700.
