Some major problems with our IE (we think)

G

Gregg & Heather

Recently we've been having some major problems with
websites that we visit often. Pics not showing up (nice
box with the red "x" in the corner), other sites re-
directing us to a funky search engine, and a few that pop
up a nice piece of crap on our computer
called "Morpheus." We are running IE6.0, we also have
running McAfee Firewall, and XP's firewall. We use Ad-
Aware to remove any spy-ware, ad-ware, and data-miners.
The Morpheus thing, we cannot find on our computer, it's
not listed in the add/remove function, and there is no
folder or file called "morpheus." We've tried emailing
them on removing their software, but the emails keep
bouncing back. Can someone PLEASE help us? And also, not
sure how to correct this, but when we've tried to restore
our system, it only keeps restore points from about 2
weeks back. We tried restoring our system to a point
before we noticed 1. Morpheus, and 2. the nice little web
problem.

G & H,
You might try running this program... It sounds like you
have something HIJACKING your home page...
Follow the instructions CAREFULLY.
Download the program Hijack This from

http://tomcoyote.org/forums/ipdl.php OR

http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save
Log" button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

and copy and paste the results into a new message on the following
spyware forum......

http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?s=&act=Post&CODE=00&f=11

This should sort out your problem......if it is a Browser Hijacker.

.
When Morpheus pops up or opens right clic on the page and
check properties, should tell ya where its hiding. I had
morpheus and deleted it no problem.
