Some items duplicate some do not?

My database is created by importing returns under from our MFG software
program and then downloaded to excel and imported into Access. The software
does not have the ability to go directly to Access. After importing I append
my "summary" table using an append query. Somewhere in the append process I
think some returns will duplicate and others will not. This database is used
to track returns under warranty so the duplication is a real problem. Does
anyone know why some items are duplicating and some are not. I can't find
any commonality between what is duplicating and what is not. Any help will
be appreciated. I am using Access 2003.

There are two ways to attack your problem.
1 - Follow the data flow and see where the duplication occurs and eliminate.
2 - Create an index and set to unique so that duplicate data will not be
appended.
