some images not visible

Why doesn't IE show certain images on web pages,
substituting instead a tiny multi-colored rectangle in
the upper left corner of where the image should be? What
can be done about it?

Thanks,

Clear the IE cache. I.E./Tools/Options/General/Delete files (and delete
offline content.) It's often recommended that the Temporary Internet Files
(folder) be kept at
40-50 MB. Bigger isn't necessarily better.
If still no joy then have a look at this page for other issues.

Thanks for the idea, but it wasn't enough. This common
and specific symptom remains--a tiny multicolored
vertical rectangle with an even tinier square, triangle
and circle in the upper left corner of white space. I've
seen this occasionally for years. It's therefore a common
enough issue that MS should long ago have included an
error message saying what it means.
