Some images not showing correctly

I have a wierd problem

I am inserting images into my web page, some insert fine and then i can use auto thumbnail to create a thumbnail on the page and the link to the full size image, thats all good.

But...

Sometimes when i go to insert an image it will not insert and all i get is a placeholder (Little white box with red cross in it), so i cannot then use the auto thumbnail feature at all.

I have also tried to work around the problem by opening the original image in another program and then using copy and then paste the image into frontpage and then auto thumbnail but doing this causes the image to go funny (Funny colours etc)

Anyone know what is wrong or what i am doing wrong??
