Some images appear as boxes with red X

On certain websites gif images appear as boxes with
red "X's". When I click on View > Encoding > Auto Select
it refreshes and displays the images properly. However,
next time I launch my browser or go to another website, it
reverts back to the boxes with red x's and I have to do it
again. Any suggestions.
