Some Dialog Fonts / Text Too Large

C

Charlie Danger

I recently wiped clean my Acer laptop (which has an ATI Mobility
Radeon X600 chip and a 15.4" wide screen) and reinstalled Windows and
the original drivers. Problem is now many of the fonts on the screen
are too large for the dialog boxes that they sit in. This occurs
across Windows and its programs.

All font sizes are set as normal in the Display applet, the DPI is
right, resolution normal etc. I tried updating to a newer ATI driver
but the problem persists. I can't figuore out what's causing the over-
sized fonts.

It's been difficult to search for a solution as the terms are used so
widely in other contexts.

Any suggestions? I'd appreciate any help!

I can't help with your font problem, but I understand your search problem.
Go to groups.google.com. This limits hits to those only from newsgroups,
which gets rid of a lot of unhelpful hits.
At the far right of the screen near the top, click on Advanced Groups
Search.
Here you can choose how many messages to list per page, how you want them
sorted, what newsgroup family/subfamily/specific newsgroup to search, like
microsoft.* for any Microsoft newsgroup or :*.windowsxp for any newsgroup
with .windowsxp in the name.

It's the DPI Setting.. Open Display Properties, Settings tab, Advanced
button, General tab, lower that DPI setting.

Thanks for the replies. I'm afraid it's not my DPI setting: I checked
that and it's set to normal size (96 DPI). Nor is any part of the
windows theme using large fonts as I've reset to the default XP themes
as well as 'classic' but to no avail. I've also looked through the
Advanced settings for the windows 'graphical items' but again nothing
is out of the ordinary.

I do have a widescreen on my laptop (1280x800) but it was never a
problem until this clean install.

Any more ideas? Please!
