solid line for signing above typed name in legal document

Guest

I am writing a legal document and need to add a solid line above the parties'
names for them to sign the agreement..., but I have been unable to achieve
this very simple task this time...
If I use the -/_ key, I get a solid line from side-to-side of the paper...
(I only want a line 'above' each name) ...
If I use the Underline icon (from the toolbar) + ----, I get '------
(underlined)' ...
If I use the Underline icon (from the toolbar) + (space bar), I get '
' ...
Please help me ASAP...

I gather you are using Word? If so then the best way to do this is to use a
single column, two row table, and only add a border to the horizontal line
between the two rows. For an example of using a table for somthing like this
and alternate methods take a look at this article:

As Beth said, the article at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/LinesInForms.htm details several ways
to get lines, but note that the reason you are getting a solid line when you
try to create a line with underline characters is that you have Automatic
Borders enabled; for more on that, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/CantGetRidOfLine.htm
