Software for XP

I would like to know the minimum year for software to run on XP. For
example, I own Office 97', Office 2K Pro, Office XP Pro. Bookshelf 98,
Encarta98, and 2000'. The list goes own. I guess my point is will 98 version
software run or do I need to make sure it is at least 2000', 2001', 2002' or
whatever. So, can someone point me to a site elaborating on this.

TIA,

No, it doesn't work that way. There is no minimum year; it
depends entirely on the individual program. The things you think
of as years are just marketing names, and those names have no
real significance.

For
example, I own Office 97', Office 2K Pro, Office XP Pro. Bookshelf 98,
Encarta98, and 2000'. The list goes own. I guess my point is will 98
version software run or do I need to make sure it is at least 2000',
2001', 2002' or whatever. So, can someone point me to a site

All the programs on your list will run on XP.

AFAIK any of those will run. In general if a program has been written
for Win98 or NT4 is will at worst run under the Program Compatibility
wizard, pretending to be that system. There are a few exceptions - some
games especially that try to handle hardware direct, and utilities that
need old 16 bit drivers not written to WDM standards or which again try
to go behind the system's back. Avoid anything like old Norton
utilities or old CD burning software, for example. But general
applications like those (including many for Win95, like Office97) will
be OK
