Just get a usb card reader instead. The one I have is a Promaster and it
was around $30usd. It didn't need any drivers in XP - all I did was
plug it in and XP sees it as a removable drive. When I want to transfer
pictures from my camera, I just put the memory card in the reader and
drag them to my hard drive. That way I don't need the camera on, using
up its batteries, too.

Make sure you get a reader that is the right one for your camera's
media.
