Soft Updates

I got some software with update function, that you don't get the update as a
file that you can save. Instead it's auto updating and I can see that some
files in particular *.dll files have changed.
How do I to catch this files so I can have the soft up to date, if I
sometimes need to format or change computer and the update function isn't
availibly then?
There must be some easyer way than track the *.dll files, if it's only
*.dll, I don't know and backup them and move them to the new installed
software.

What software? Have you asked those who made it for support or even looked
on their web page to see if they have the downloads for offline installation
available?

With no name of software it's not easy to help is it? The only thing is
general- go to the writers site, read their help, and email their support.
Don't forget to tell them what software and version you are using though.
