So Many Patches for even the different SP's

There must be a tool or a way to make the patches look at the OS and
install only the one relevant to that OS.

We have 5 new patches for all different flavours of NT, and even the
W2K service packs have different patches.

How can I install the proper patch automatically depending on the
service pack on the computer??

I am not just talking about 2K here. We have NT4 and XP and laptops
which all need patched.

It's going to be an absolute nightmare, AGAIN!

Software update services will do what you desire for 2k and xp.
You can approve all the patches but only the appropriate one for the OS and
revision will be applied.

NT4 will still need to be done manually or via windows update

Hi,
Hi,

The way I addressed this where no other solution was available was to write
a startupscript that findst the OS, Langguage and Service Pack. With this
information it checks the txt file containing the KB numbers of the patches
I want to apply and checks if they are allready installed and if not cpies
and applies the correct patch for that machine.

If you have no desire for scripting check out SUS. It's quiete simple to
set up, free and it works.

Have a nice day
