so how do Students/Teachers get Outlook?

I have two copies of Office 2003 for students/teachers, and three devices
that share them - but let's not go there. On each of the three my kids or I
are using Outlook.

So along comes 2007 - and Outlook is not in the student/teacher package?

Help me here folks. How are teachers and students supposed to send e-mail,
keep track of appointments, contacts etcetera?

Many TIAs mahalos and Dankes.......

You're not gonna like this answer -- you buy it! ($54.85 per educational
license at campustech.com). And because you have the student/teacher
edition, you are not eligible for any retail upgrade pricing if you somehow
don't qualify for the educational rate (which is pretty easy to qualify for).

I'm in the same boat you are, but luckily Outlook 2007 doesn't offer much
more than 2003 so I'm not tempted to buy it! Nice marketing ploy by the big
boys...

(and do you realize that you only need 1 copy of S/T edition for three
devices?).

Thanks for confirming this glaring omission on Microsoft's marketing plan!
:-( Who knows, maybe they think students should not communicate with others.

You may have also answered the follow-up question (are you feeling
presidential, yet?) which was, 'can one load office 2007 and still retain
Outlook 2003?' I was in a 'Best' Buy store this afternoon and the Geek at
the counter told me my Outlook 2003 would disappear with the installation of
Office 2007, and could not be installed subsequent.

If Outlook '03 can prevail, I can live with the different platforms.... I
have done so in the past with earlier versions of Office products (happily,
no others of importance at THIS time!)

Thanks much for the reply and any additional info you can provide! Mahalos!

I am running a trial version of Office 2007 with Outlook 2003. you just have
to choose to not install Outlook when you install the package. If you do
install Outlook 2007 it will uninstall Outlook 2003. Download a trial
version to see if it works the way you want before you go and buy it. I
think you will lose the ability to write emails in Word if you switch to Word
2007 but not Outlook 2007.

Does anyone know if Microsoft posted officially why they left educators and
students out, as far as Outlook is concerned. Yes, we all know it's the $$$
involved, but I would love to see their official position in black and white.
Do we not schedule appointments, meetings, vacations, etc? Or maybe, just as
out salaries are so meager, so considers Microsoft, that we're just not worth
the little money we make, as is?

Try Mozilla Thunderbird with the Lightning Calendar extension - just as good
as outlook unless you need to share calendars - and you can even do that
using a website.....

Gordon,
Thanks for the info. I've been using Firefox on another computer and have
seen the great add-ins available. But since I also use my Palm E2, I'll
probably have to go to Palm's Desktop to synch both devices. But I shall not
give up without a fight!
I believe that we should rally both teachers and students who are registered
users of Student & Teacher editions and flood MS with emails. I for one, will
be taking it to our local South Florida TV press (as long as I'm not mistaken
as a long-lost relative of the late Ms. Smith!)
Thanks again and watch this site of a possible link to a new website.

I just created a simple, one-page web site
(http://home.bellsouth.net/p/PWP-Outlook) to help rally educators and
students to the fact that the "Academic Edition" has been replaced by the
"Home and Student" version, minus Outlook(R).
In addition to our postings here, please contact Microsoft, either my
snail-mail or email and let them know that educators and students deserve to
have Outlook included in the revamped academic package!
