SNTP not responding...need confirmation

I've been having problems with SNTP. I was getting regular intervaled logged
errors on my w2k DC that the NTP server did not respond. I then confirmed
that the UDP port 123 was not open on our fiewall, so we opened it. I am
still getting the errors, but less frequently. I can ping the time server
tick.usno.navy.mil, and my network time does seem to be accurate. Before the
port was opened the network time would increase more rapdily, but now it
seems stable. I think that it is now working, but I just want confirmation in
the event logs. I read somewhere, that by default W2K will only log
unsuccessful NTP responses, and not successful ones. If this is true, then
I'm assuming that SNTP time sync is working, since our time is accurate, but
we are receiving some bad responses from the time server. How do I get it to
log successful NTP attempts, so I can be sure that it is working. The Domain
Controller policy is set to log 'success & failure' system events.

Thanks
Mike
