Smoother Transitions in ppt 2003

I am using powerpoint to create backgrounds for widescreen, hi-res
presentations. I have a fast computer (athlon 64 x2 4200+ 1GB RAM, Matrox
Parhelia APVe PCI-x16 Video Card) with essentially nothing installed on it
but Windows and Office. My display is a 3 output card set at 3072x768
(1024x768x3) In the past I've done presentations on a slower PC with an older
video card and was unhappy with the quality of transitions (particularly the
"fade smoothly" transition) I assembled this computer solely to run these
presentations, getting the fastest hardware I could afford, but it hasn't
seemed to help significantly. I have tried checking and unchecking the "use
hardware graphics acceleration" box under "set up show" with no significant
difference. Reducing my output resolution is not an acceptable option.
Is there a video adaptor chip out there that is particularly excellent for
powerpoint or some sort of transition plugin that has better results than the
ppt standard "fade smoothly?"

thanks

Chris

Some things you might try. Delete all *.tmp files on your hard drive and
then defragment it. You might be amazed at how badly fragmented a drive is
after installing Windows and Offcie.

Also try reducing the colour depth to 16 bit instead of 24 bit. This makes
a significant difference to the effects of hardware acceleration but may
adversely affect your images. I remember having a similar problem when I
used a Parhelia card and at the time I just came to the conclusion that it
was because I was asking one card to handle 3 times the usual amount of
image data.
