Smooth out abrupt end of presentation

Hello group:

IPPT 2003.

I just received a presentation made up by someone else for my son's
wedding on 12/31. It's the usual photo slide show with music. I
watched it today and am disturbed that it just abruptly stops with the
last slide, cutting off the music.

Is there any way to smooth this out? Can I add another (last) picture
and make it last longer than the timed slides, until the music stops?

Any other suggestions? I thought some sort of animation for the last
slide with shrink, or something like that might work.

I would greatly appreciate any thoughts. I only have tonight and
tomorrow to work on it. Thanks.

Unfortunately you cannot accurately time things to music. Each computer will
process the file at different speeds, so if set just perfect on one
computer, it will be different on another... There also is no way to have
PPT fade-out music at the end of sequence or show.

Outside of having the music controlled by an external device, the best
solution is to look at the total play time for the slides you have. Then add
a final "congratulations" slide that can be viewed as long as needed - this
is the only slide not setup with an auto slide advance. Open the music file
in an audio editor (Soundforge, audacity, goldwave, etc.) and cut it at 15
seconds longer than the play time. Add a nice fadeout for the last 3-4
seconds - save - import into PPT. Now the slideshow has some breathing room
to end early or slow, have the music nicely fade out and all should work
great (provided everyone says 'I do' at the proper time!).

Troy...
Thanks very much for the enlightening information and for the
suggestions. I'll go to work on it and report back. I'm still a little
fuzzy on some of the details, but trial and error usually work out
problems.

Is there an easy way to do this? Rehearsal doesn't seem to help me. Or
should I just guess or multiply the number of slides by the transition
interval? I thought there might be some way to get this number from
within PPT.

Can you give me more detailed instructions? How do I make my last
slide not go along with the advance slides instructions for all the
others (4 seconds between slides)?

I think I can do the audio editing with Cool Edit, but the PPT stuff
is puzzling me.

Many thanks again.

In Edit mode, with the slide in question as the active slide select
Slide Show | Slide Transition... In the Advance Slide section uncheck
'Automatically after' and ensure that 'On mouse click' is clicked.
Finally, remember to *not* click on 'Apply to all slides'.

Works fine. Thanks, Tushar.

Jack,

Check out the new PPT 2003 add-in (free) from Microsoft called "Microsoft
Producer." It times your slides and music perfectly.
