Does anyone know if there is a way to turn debugging on
for the Smart Card service? This service is failing on
numerous workstation with no indication as to why, and
when it fails the system detects it as a card removal so
the system locks and will not unlock. The current user
must be logged out and the workstation rebooted.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Smart Card is in use for many purposes. They are used in cameras and
we generally know how to get round troubles of that kind.
Unfortunately you lose the information on the card but you do make it
workable again.
You must purchase a Zio reader. That reader has a smprep.exe program
that will format the card to make it useful again. It does leave the
card blank.

Using the Zio and a good hex editor (I use winhex) you should be able
to transfer the content of the card to the computer and then if you
are any good at a very basic programming, like working with assembler,
be able to see the error on the card and correct it or maybe just use
the copy on your computer to gain the information. Using maybe the
firerecovery program you see on http://www.convar.de.

I have never used it as it is another damned german program and old
Danes never forget that the germans misused our hospitality during the
better part of the world war II.
