I have a machine that was working fine then one morning the smart card
resource manager would not start again. I get error 1086 trying to start it
manually and nothing else. I uninstalled Active card and have tried a number
of diffrent readers but still no luck. I am running XP SP2 (clean install).

Any suggestions? I have been trying to find KB832082 but no one can seem to
locate it. I am not even sure if this will fix it.

Here is a link to that MS knowledge base article. It came up forthwith from
the kb search dialog.

Smart card stops functioning or you cannot access the local registry when
you upgrade from Windows 2000 Server to Windows XP SP 1 or earlier
