I've been trying to create a small home network between my desktop computer
(running win XP pro) and my sister's laptop (running win XP home). In my
desktop I have a realtek ethernet card, which I ran a cat5e crossover cable
to my sister's laptop which has a built in ethernet port. My desktop gets
internet from high speed wireless (i.e. there is a big antennae on top of our
house to get broadband because we live in the country).
When I try to create a small home network (using the wizard) on my desktop,
windows seems to want to use an old LAN connection which no longer exists,
and I can't seem to delete this old connection either. In any case, I would
use this if I could, but I always get the message that the network cable is
not plugged in, even though I have made sure the cable is plugged in. I also
made sure, and windows said my realtek card is functioning properly. Any
idea what the problem could be?
