Small Caps in Outline numbering - Word 2003

I'm using Word 2003, SP2.

I would like to use small caps for my Heading 1 to show ARTICLE I. but the
feature is grayed out when I go to the Customize Outline Numbered List dialog
box, and click the Font button. All caps works, but small caps is not
available.

Instead of trying to apply small caps to the outline numbered list, you
should apply small caps to the Heading 1 style itself.

Is it possible to get the "A" of ARTICLE larger than the "RTICLE" but yet
still have it all in caps?

Thanks.

Yes, if you type "Article" and format it as small caps, then the A will
be bigger than the other letters, but all letters will be in caps.

That's exactly my point; I can't format it with small caps as the option is
grayed out.

We type ARTICLE as the bullet text before the I. in the Customize Outline
Numbered List dialog box. The style for the Heading 1 text after the bullet
is set to small caps, but that does not change the bullet.

If there is no way to do it, that's fine, but I just thought I would check
with the experts.

I can confirm this: Although the heading numbering ought to conform to the
font formatting of the heading style, for some reason it does not pick up
Small Caps formatting.
