Sm Bus Contoller

I have a HP Pavilion 792c desktop that came with Windows XP Home Ed and I
have upgraded to XP Professional. My device manager shows an exclamation mark
beside the SM Bus Controller check the properties of this device and get the
following:The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). I have
tried to reinstall the driver but I keep getting the message it can't find a
driver for it. I have uninstalled and let Windows install it but the same
thing happens. It goes right back to the same problem. I have gone to the
drivers and updates, etc. for this PC but didn't find anything. I don't want
to use my recovery cd because I don't want to go back to the home edition. I
had formatted and installed the Professional Edition first rather than
upgrading. Therefore, I don't have the HP utilities installed that I may
need. Is there a way to repair this problem without installing the Home
Edition first? If I have this driver, where is it? I checked on my D drive
and didn't recognize it if it is there. My system has the Intel 845E chipset.
I've gone to the Intel web site and checked for an update for this particular
one. I'm using Windows XP Professional Service pack 1. Due to problems with
Service pack 2, I do not have it installed. I did a search for the 845E.
Intel stated to be sure to read the release notes and make sure your chipset
was supported. Every update that was listed, the release notes did not show
the 845e nor the 845 family. My computer isn't giving me any problems so
would it be safe to leave it as is or am I asking for trouble? If anyone has
any ideas, please feel free to say so. Thanks! Kathy
