Christine

I reinstalled Windows XP recently and since then, the
computer boots up slowly and the sound is distorted. I
downloaded SP1 and it fixed my original problem, however,
I need to figure out how to get back up to speed. Should
I do a clean install of Windows XP???

Try running Disk cleanup, also use the other areas in cleanup, set restore to
last date,then run disk defrag,go to run,type:cmd At the curser type:CHKDSK C: /R
Agree to restart,then type:EXIT
Before you reboot,run,type:%temp% edit,select all,delete all,close
out,reboot for CHKDSK to run.
You should run any (all) of these from time to time.

The BV page is referring to "Services" NOT programs that run at start.
Services can be accessed through "msconfig" but, that is not the place to
modify them.... Different issue.

Programs, if not wanted to run at boot, should be disabled in the program's
options, if available. If there is no option, they can be disabled in
"msconfig". Note: On a clean install, no programs are listed in "msconfig",
i.e., nothing needs to run at start for the system to function properly.
Your AV and Firewall should be activated, anything else is optional.
