slow XP profile loading, Slow PC

A friend has an older Pavilion PC which takes a long time to boot & is very
slow to use. As a standalone PC it's got a single 1.92 GB local profile! It's
very large considering just 128MB Ram.
there were some scanned.PDFs placed on the desktop so I moved them to the My
Documents folder. I assume these files were loaded into Memory then paged to
disk upon start. There are only shortcuts on the desktop now. The profile is
now 426MB which is still large considering the sytem Ram. Is there something
else I can do in optimizing the profile information other than creating a new
profile?

As it's not networked there's no roaming profile involved. I'm trying to
find vintage RDRAM PC600 to help as well.

You,ve maybe done all of this already but ill say it anyway. First things
first what is the OS of the computer? anyways try to stop unnecessary
programs running on startup. I can't help but think 426Mb is a huge
considering its an older PC. mmmmm if the quick launch is on shut that down.
Been a long time since a had to do any of that can't really think of
anything else right now. Try it if you haven't already. Sorry if ive wasted
your time.

What you have looked at is interesting and makes thing I should be
looking at my own local profile. Notwithstanding I wonder whether you
have tried creating another profile and comparing performance one as to
the other?

Hope this helps.
