Hey,

I've got a problem with Windows taking almost two minutes (literally)
to finish starting up before I'm able to open any non-Windows
programs. I've checked my startup programs using "msconfig" and the
only ones loaded are Norton Antivirus 2003, Zone Alarm 2004, my popup
stopper and my desktop news program. I've played around with all
these programs a lot and it seems that Norton and Zone Alarm are
what's taking so long to finish loading. I've recently reinstalled
Windows so I've a fresh registry and before I was using Norton AV and
Zone Alarm without having to wait on startup. I'm able to use Windows
programs while Norton and Zone Alarm are loading (e.g., Windows
explorer, Windows search, open control panel and it's applets, etc.)
but not any non-Windows programs.

I'm using Windows XP and have all the latest service packs/critical
updates and haven't noticed any other update that addresses the
problem I'm having.

Anyone have any ideas on what the holdup is? Could it be one of the
system processes that is started on Windows boot that's causing the
problem?

Any help is much appreciated, thanks...

Get the Bootvis.exe program. it will log everything as the PC boots, and
report back when XP finishes loading. it will list everything that loaded
and how long it took, you will find the culprit.

It used to be offered on MS site, but they no longer have it available. You
can get it at
http://www.winxpfix.com/Windows-Software-Page41.htm#bootvis

Click the download link, install it, and follow the instructions after you
run it.

You don't need a pop up stopper with zone alarm set up correct. I have not
ever received one with zone alarm running.
