Slow Windows startup

My Dell laptop (out of warranty) is very, very slow starting up. I have done
a lot of troubleshooting, and have identified at least one reason. When I
choose selective startup in MSConfig, and check all "systems" except
"workstation," it starts fairly quickly. My question is what is
"workstation" used for? What will happen if I uncheck "workstation" in
"systems," using selective startup?

Thanks,

Use msconfig to analize what is actually loading when windows starts,
then disable unnecessary progs as required.
Best to do this from within the program itself if possible, if the
option to not load/run when windows starts is not available, disable
with msconfig|startup tab

If any of those programs are unintelligle to you, look at sysinfo.org to find
out what those cryptic names are.
