slow to download mail

i hv been trying to speed up mail download ever since i installed vista, but
to no avail. but mail download under XP is fast. i tried uninstalling the
antivirus as suggested by someone but this too has not made any effect.
anyone has any suggestions ?
 
After you uninstall the antivirus software, remove your mail account, close
and reopen WinMail and then add it back again.
