have reformatted with disk and still slow. anyway of
finding out where there might be a conflict.

Restart the OS in safe mode, do a Defrag and Disk clean up. Click start >
Run > type in: "msconfig" without quotes > Startup (tab) > uncheck any
unnecessary programs that might be starting up with the system.

You haven't given any information to help diagnose this problem, such as
computer make and model, amount of memory, hard drives, add on cards,
network, etc. What do you mean by you reformatted with the disk? What
version of XP, what patches applied, what programs installed.
