Hi,
I have had my new laptop for two months now. It has
Windows XP home edition as its operating system. Here
lately, in the past two days, I have been having problems
with Windows starting up very slowly. When starting up,
the volume and power source icons would load while the
microsoft chime would sound off, quickly followed by the
rest of the tool bar icons. However, now only a couple
icons load then the computer takes more than 30 seconds
to load another icon then the microsoft chime sounds off,
slowly followed by the rest of the tool bar icons.
Can anyone offer ideas/solutions?
Thanks

Have you installed any additional software/fonts or have you deleted lots of files - try doing a disk clean up and analysise with defragmenter- remove any unnecessary programs or files first

Have you installed anything new in the last few days?
Have you opened any mail attachments in the last few days? There are LOADS
of MyDoom 'worms' going round. Have you got a anti virus program installed?
Is it up to date - try updating it, then running a virus scan.

If you haven't you can get a free online scan here
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Check
START > All Programs > Startup

anything in there you don't want - right click and delete the shortcut

A good website for tweaking XP/making it quicker is:
http://www.tweakxp.com/

in particular, I would suggest you look at (for starters)
http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak545.aspx

Hope this helps.
