When I start my computer, it takes about 5 min to boot up. Other than that I
have no problems with the computer. I have taken it to a computer shop and
they can't fix the problem. Can anyone help?

Start/Run. Type msconfig. Startup tab. Uncheck all the options which you
don't need at startup (most of them probably). General tab - check Selective
Startup button. Close.

You may also have masses of fonts. These install themselves every time you
boot and slow it all down. Try deleting the ones you are unlikely to use.
But make sure you don't delete the ones Windows uses, like Marlett, and some
others which I don't know which they are.

Part one of the answer is good - do clean boot troubleshooting:

Clean Boot in Windows XP

Part two of the answer is incorrect - although having too many fonts
installed did cause a problem in older MS operating systems, XP does
font-handling differently and the number of fonts installed does not
negatively impact the system.

My personal view is that the attention many people pay to how
long it takes to boot is unwarranted. Assuming that the speed is
otherwise satisfactory, it may not be worth worrying about. Most
people start their computers once a day or even less frequently.
In the overall scheme of things, even a few minutes to start up
isn't very important. Personally I power on my computer when I
get up in the morning, then go get my coffee. When I come back,
it's done booting. I don't know how long it took to boot and I
don't care.
