Slow start up

My new HP with XP Home edition takes at least 1 1/2 minutes to start up. the only things checked in the System Configuration Utility Startup are KBD,ccApp,PCHbutton, Norton System Doctor and WKCALREM. At 2.6g I think I should start faster. Any hints?

Do you have DSL or Cable that has a dynamic(always changing) IP?
If you have DSL/Cable and a dynamic IP, perhaps you have your 'real' adapter
and then the PPOE adapter in your network connections folder. For the real
adapter set a IP Address like 192.168.0.1 and a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and
then reboot. It wont affect your internet connection but it will save you
the time of windows trying to assign a IP address to your adapter...thus
perhaps the 90 second wait.. I had same problem. Windows is too slow to
figure out assigning IP's unfortunately.

Hp has a table you can print called Desktop PC's - Preventing programs from opening
when windows starts. showing pros & cons. I would blame Norton. It is the first thing
I that I uninstall. Don't take it from me though. Try right click on My Computer, to Manag
and check out event viewer, often one can decipher reason for problem from there

Norton disk doctor and speed disk don't work well in XP. They actually cause more problems than they solve. The only product of theirs' I would use is the anti-virus. Speed disk actually caused excessive fragmentation and made my system worse. The same went for Disk Doctor. There are all sorts of tools that are in XP and are designed just for the OS so use them and save your money. There are in fact about 100 tools once you learn to use them. Good luck.
