I believe my computer is starting up slowly because of the
information in KB262129:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;262129

I get that message, and when I start Windows 2000 (Pro) it
says press Ctrl-Alt-Del and freezes with the hourglass
cursor for 30 seconds.

Also, if I log on as soon as it is ready, a message comes
up saying "Windows cannot load your profile. The handle is
invalid." is this related to the problem?

How are both fixed?

Thanks in advanced
Matt

If you are experiencing the errors listed in the KB article, there should
be a GUID in the error description, paste it in your reply. You can search
you registry under the HKCR\CLSID key to find out what the GUID refers to.

Also, does this happen in Safe Mode ?
How about with the network cable unplugged ?

There is no GUID in the error description. It says:
Timed out sending notification of device interface change
to window of "".
It records about 10-15 entries everytime the computer
starts.

I used to have it on a network, but I have taken it off
and there are no cables plugged in. I haven't tried safe
mode.

I have heard it is to do with MS04-011 security release.
How safe is it to remove the Windows Update patch
kb835732. It has a lot of system files in the uninstall
directory.

thanks,
Matt

Please test in Safe Mode, it is the easiest way to find out if it the
operating system that has a problem, or if its third-party software
