My Windows XP is very slow at shutdown. Ant idea's on how
to make it shutdown at a normsl speed. It can take upto 5
min. now. THX

Clean out all the Temporary Internet Files. regularly

Dump all of the files in your TEMP folder. regularly

Run a defrag on your hard drive to get all the files back
in order

Keep up with your Anti-Virus updates. at least every week

Back up your DATA. You can replace programs
but your DATA means hours of work for you to input all
the old information.

This means that some program (or programs) is not exiting gracefully.
For troubleshooting shutdown issues, go here:

I'd also do general Windows troubleshooting as follows:

1) scan with current antivirus using updated definitions; 2) remove
spyware with tools such as Spybot S&D (www.security.kolla.de) and/or
Ad-aware (www.lavasoftusa.com) - note that it is a good idea to do
virus and spyware scans in Safe Mode; 3) delete temporary and Temporary
Internet Files; 4) stop unnecessary services/programs from running at
startup (see www.blackviper.com for a listing of services).
